Where are we? - Let me out of the ball!

If there is one thing that can really get my mind boggled, its staring up at the night sky. Last night I took the kids outside to try and see some falling stars. Right now is the peak of the Perseids meteor shower. We only saw a couple, but it was early and couldn't wait around till midnight. So, back to my mind boggling...I can't grasp the reality of infinity. I mean, I took all these engineering classes and I understand the concept, but I can't wrap my mind around the actual existance of it. Well I take that back. I can understand maybe facing two mirrors at each other and if you could stand between them and look through yourself, you could see forever. That's just light bouncing back and forth. What get's me is space going on forever.....

Tracey doesn't like it when I talk about it. I think it boggles her mind too. How can it go on forever?? If I could gather up all of the known regions of space and imagine it now being the size of a marble, what would I set it on? Or, if all of that stuff floating around in space is actually floating around in a single drop of water, what is the drop of water sitting on? I mean, if I point out at the night sky and say I'm going in that direction for a gazillion light years, forever, whatever. Can I? Some think you'll just loop back to the beginning, right to where you started. Now maybe that's true, but if so, that means we're in some sort of a ball or something and you can't get out. Okay, but if we're inside the ball, is there someone playing catch?

Well...if you manage to get out of the ball, then where will you be? :o Think about that one for a while.  The great thing about it all is that we have an infinite God.  That means that He's there for us no matter where we are.  We are never abandoned.  And he's in control of every single molecule of it all.  That's even more amazing to me.

I can't remember the latin words but there is a famous saying that goes, "the finite cannot comprehend the infinite."  I can't remember who said it either, but it's logical.

Oh, and if we're in some sorta cosmic "ball" I don't think that it's so much of a game of catch as it is a matter of juggling.   :D

"Finitum non capax infinitum" = "The finite cannot comprehend (or contain) the infinite."   And I think it was attributed to John Calvin.  But don't hold me to it.

Three questions:  1. If the ball gets dropped which way does it fall.  and 2. will the ball bounce.  3. and if so what will it bounce off of.
